The 2010 Israel Open Golf Championship has ended. Over 200 golfers from eight countries (South Africa, Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, the Unites States and Israel) participated in the tournament.
As was expected, the winner of the title of Israel Champion was won by 17 year old Asaf Cohen from Or Akiva who, after four days of competition achieved the wonderful result of 289 strokes, a difference of 14 strokes from the second place winner, South African David Shvil. In third place with 305 strokes was Barry Sandelson, also from South Africa.
Cohen, the son of Avi Cohen who was for many years the Israel Golf Champion, is also Israel Youth Champion for 2010.
The women's champion is Petra Bogoslavski, also only 17 years old. Petra came to Israel from Brazil just over a year ago and lives at Ramat Poleg in Netanya. She was absent from the awards ceremony as she was representing Israel at the Women's Team Championship in Argentina. Her team mates on the Israel team are Latissa Beck, 18.5 and Hadas Libmann, 15, both of who are graduates of the Caesarea Golf Academy and who are currently studying in the United States. Hadas is studying at a golf academy in Florida and Latissa at Duke University in North Carolina.
Second place in the women's category was won by Mical Ronen. The Senior category (50+) was especially tense and after a very close competition the winners were: First place - Neil Shohat (235), second place - Barry Shaked (237) and Nissim Zanti who took third place (239)
In the Women's Senior competition, Mical Ronen came first and Evelyn Gilhard from Belgium, took second place.
In the Super Senior Competition (70+), Mattie Gerry was in first place. In the children's under-12 competition Elad Berman came in first and Tommy Santos, the son of the Caesarea Golf Club's professional manager, came in second.
In the "Sister Club" category where Israeli golfers play alongside golfers from foreign "twinned" golf clubs, Sam Getta, an Israeli living in the United States and who is paralyzed in both legs and plays seated in a specially designed wheelchair, and his competition partner, the new World Champion Blind Golfer, won first place. Second place was taken by Hana Bergaz and Yaffa Samuel.
Euro-Asia, the Rolex importer, this year once again sponsored the tournament.
